💛 About Tammie

Hi, I'm Tammie. Here's a little of my story — because I'm going to ask you for yours. 😊

I earned my degree from Bemidji State University in psychology, elementary education, and business — a combination that turns out to be made for this work. The way I describe it: I was trained to listen, diffuse, and manage. Therapist, kindergarten teacher, and business owner, all in one.

I spent two years at State Farm corporate and four years as a team member in another agency before opening my own doors in January 2001 — more than 30 years with State Farm all told. Thirty years in, the reason I still love this hasn't changed: people forget about awards, but they never forget the extra time you took, or that you remembered something important to them.

🏡 A little about my life outside the office

I've been married more than 40 years and I'm a proud mom of four — including Trinatie, who is now part of this team (yes, really 💛). Outside of work you'll find me crafting, fly fishing, making art, reading, or planning the next trip. Before insurance I was a portrait photographer, which probably explains why I notice the details.

🤝 Why community matters here

I serve on boards, support local businesses, schools, athletic clubs, and arts organizations, and I speak up for women in business — from lived experience. I came into this industry 30 years ago as a woman in a largely male field. My solution? Show up and wear heels. 👠 Giving back here isn't for show. It's who I am.

📍 Where we work

Our office sits on the Stearns County side of Sartell, right where the Mississippi runs through town. Proudly serving Sartell, St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids, Waite Park, St. Joseph, Rice, Foley, and St. Augusta, and communities throughout Stearns and Benton County, since 2001.

🔍 The Problem We Solve

Most people don't think about their insurance until something goes wrong — a deer on the highway, a hailstorm, a life change that quietly leaves a gap nobody caught at renewal. My team and I make sure that doesn't happen to you. We check in, we review, and we make sure your coverage keeps up with your life.

🛡️ What We Cover

• 🚗 Auto — Minnesota no-fault coverage, deer season comprehensive, Drive Safe and Save, and young driver programs

• 🏠 Home and Renters — replacement cost, hail and wind, ice dam, water backup, and home systems protection

• 💛 Life —life insurance options for families and business owners

• 💼 Business — Business Owner's Policy, commercial auto, workers' compensation, and professional liability

• ☂️ Umbrella and Personal Articles — extra liability protection and coverage for recreational vehicles, jewelry, hunting equipment, and more

💛 Let's Talk About Your Coverage

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Who's a good local State Farm agent near Sartell, MN?

Tammie Downare has been a State Farm agent in Central Minnesota since 2001, with more than 30 years of State Farm experience. Her Sartell office serves Sartell, St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids, Waite Park, St. Joseph, Rice, Foley, and St. Augusta, plus surrounding communities throughout Stearns and Benton County. Her approach is simple: listen to your story first, then build protection around your real life.

How much car insurance do I actually need in Minnesota?

Minnesota requires drivers to carry Personal Injury Protection and liability coverage, but the right amount beyond those requirements depends on your vehicles, driving habits, household, and what you want to protect. In Central Minnesota, it is also worth reviewing comprehensive coverage before fall because it can apply to losses such as deer collisions and hail, subject to your policy terms.

Does comprehensive coverage cover hitting a deer in Minnesota?

Generally, damage from hitting a deer is handled under comprehensive coverage rather than collision coverage, subject to the terms of your policy and applicable deductible. With Minnesota's statewide archery deer season beginning September 19, fall is a good time to make sure you understand how your current auto coverage would respond.

We're back to school. What should I review on my auto insurance if my teen is driving?

A new teen driver is a good reason to review who is driving which vehicles, how the vehicles are being used, available discounts, and the protection you have in place. Ask about programs such as Steer Clear when your young driver is eligible, and make sure your coverage reflects your household's actual driving situation.

Why did my auto or home insurance cost go up this year?

Insurance costs can change for many reasons, including changes in repair and rebuilding costs, claims activity, coverage changes, and other factors used to determine your rate. A good place to start is with a review of your current coverage so you understand what changed and whether your protection still fits your life.

How do I know if my home is insured for enough to rebuild it today?

Your home's market value and the amount it could cost to rebuild are two different numbers. Construction costs, materials, labor, updates, and the home's features can all affect rebuilding costs, so an annual coverage review can help make sure your protection keeps pace with your home.

Does homeowners insurance cover basement water, heavy rain, or a failed sump pump?

It depends on where the water came from and what coverage is included in your policy. Flood damage generally requires separate flood coverage, while sewer or drain backup and some sump pump losses may require an added endorsement. A quick review can help you understand how your policy handles the water risks that matter most in Central Minnesota.

What should I check on my home insurance before fall and winter in Central Minnesota?

September is a smart time to review your roof and wind or hail coverage, replacement cost, water backup protection, and how your policy handles winter-related concerns such as ice dams and freezing. It is also a good time to update your coverage for home improvements or valuable belongings you've added during the year.

I have coverage through work. Is that enough to protect my family?

Coverage through an employer can be a helpful starting point, but the right amount depends on your income, debts, dependents, savings, and long-term goals. A personal review can help you see whether the coverage you have through work is enough for the people who depend on you.

Does my coverage through work stay with me if I change jobs?

Not necessarily. Workplace plans can have different rules about whether coverage ends when you leave a job or whether you have an option to continue or convert it, so it is important to check the specific plan rather than assume it follows you. A coverage review can help you understand what you have today and what you may need to protect your family if your employment changes.
